Earthquake Warning System

California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is promoting a new public education campaign for Earthquake Warning California, the country’s first publicly available statewide earthquake warning system. The warning system uses ground motion sensors across the state to detect earthquakes before humans can feel them and can notify Californians to “Drop, Cover and Hold On” in advance of an earthquake.

Earthquake Warning California includes tools such as the MyShake App, Android Earthquake Alerts, and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEAs — the same system used for AMBER alerts), but also includes free educational resources and materials available on the website.
