
Support for Families joins the disability community and the world at large in mourning the loss of Judy Heumann, who passed away on March 4, 2023. Ms. Heumann was an internationally recognized civil rights leader and staunch advocate for all disadvantaged individuals.
Her legacy includes being instrumental in the design and implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, barring discrimination against disabled people in federally funded programs. She was also one of the founders of the Berkley Center for Independent Living, the Independent Living Movement, and the World Institute on Disability.
