Support for Families Clinics, Workshops, & Trainings:

RSVP required. Call 415-920-5040 to sign up for a workshop, clinic or for more information, to reserve childcare or interpretation services.


Clinics/Workshops
CLINICS are small group training's designed to accommodate individualized questions and are repeated monthly.
All clinics occur from 4-6pm, unless otherwise noted.

Thurs, August 28 - 4:00-6:00pm
• SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME CLINIC (SSI) - in English, Cantonese, and Spanish. Presented by Katy Lusson, Ph.D., J.D., Protection & Advocacy, Office of Clients’ Rights Advocacy. Learn about Social Security with a focus on SSI disability benefits, includes: applications, denials, hearings and reporting requirements. Please note: The SSI Clinic will not be held in September - it will resume in October

• TRANSITION TO ADULT SERVICES CLINIC - in English, by SFCD. Learn about transition services for children aged 16 and over, and how to effectively participate in the development of your child's transition plan.

Tues, September 9 - 4:30-6:00pm
• INTRODUCTION TO ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY - in English, by Michelle Bishop, ATP & Cassie Sementelli, CCC-SLP. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to assistive technologies and resources that can help your child increase their development of communication and or academics.

•INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION PROGRAM (IEP) - in Spanish, by SFCD. Learn about special education laws, services and the IEP process.

Thurs, September 18 - 6:30-8:30pm
• TRANSITION FROM EARLY INTERVENTION - in English, by High Risk Infant Interagency Council. Meet representatives from agencies providing services to families of very young children with special needs. We explain how early intervention works and discuss how the different agencies work together to provide services to children and their families.

Tues, September 23 - 4:30-6:00pm
• ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY OPEN RESOURCE - in English, by Michelle Bishop, ATP & Cassie Sementelli, CCC-SLP. Interested in trying out different technology tools and software that may be useful to your child or student? Sign up for an individualized time slot, and get one-to-one hands on time to test out equipment and talk with AT staff. RSVP's are a must!

Thurs, September 25 - 4:00-6:00pm

Parent/Professional Workshops on Saturdays!
PARENT/PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS are larger group training's that provide an opportunity for parents & professionals to network, share concerns, ideas, and learn about valuable information & resources.

In response to the changing needs of families, SFCD recently began offering monthly half-day Saturday workshops. These extended workshops give participants an opportunity to receive more in-depth information on a range of topics.

PPWs are held at John O'Connell High School, 2355 Folsom Street, (@20th Street).
Parking is available in the schoolyard -- Enter from Harrison Street (between 19th and 20th Streets).

In addition to providing childcare and interpretation services, a light breakfast and full lunch* are offered to all those who pre-register.


PPW’s ARE ON HOLD DURING JULY AND AUGUST AND WILL RESUME IN SEPTEMBER.
